Dearest Readers,

Today in class we made up our very own dating personality; I thought it made a really good point that perhaps you can tell a lot about a photograph. I think that with on-line dating you are in a way selling a product; yourself. The picture, the description and the tell a little about yourself section offers an opportunity to see how good you can be with your words. I think the problem with on-line dating is that some people may exaggerate parts of themselves and leave out others to come out looking desirable to the popular public. You want to place yourself in higher demand: for example when musicians go mainstream to sell records. No one wants to be last the kid standing as the team picks players. So whoever took marketing this will be a walk in the park; your niche.

This makes dating even that much more difficult, instead of just worrying about how to meet people face-to-face now you have to play the guessing game.  Who is being truly honest and who is trying to tease members with their web of lies? I think there are positive and negative aspects to on-line dating. Online dating  communities  have increasingly become more specialized, having services which suite different kinds of social networks such as ethnicity, religion, sport interests and so on. Just as a world becomes increasingly interconnected through globalization also comes more specialized services from around the world to serve the needs of the masses. But really lets just say it; we are a culture that wants to be entertained. Internet dating and social networking is just another medium to use to entertain ourselves.

Since cities are increasingly becoming corporate jungles and people are using computers in their everday functionality; online dating appears to be a nice way to pass the time.

The question is whether social networks such as MySpace and FaceBook are better meeting place for singles than on-line dating such as Lavalife? Are these social networks just like going to the bar? Another avenue of a meatmarket. Bottom line I think single people looking for love are looking whether it be in the grocery store or in the halls at school or the Internet. So heres to love !!!

Kindest Regards,
Barb E
